The republic of Slovenia is situated in central Europe, in the south of the limestone Alps, where different regions and climates meet. Its unique geographic position and easy accessibility makes it a natural gateway between Europe and the Adriatic and Balkan peninsulas. Slovenia has been the site of many historic battles. One of the most famous is the battle between the Roman emperor Theodosius and Roman usurper Eugenius in the year 394, when the two armies fought for control of the Empire.
Slovenia is a land of friendly people who live among crystal-clear mountain streams, rivers and lakes, lush green forests, vineyards, snow covered peaks, thermal and mineral water springs and spas, and a large number of plant and animal species some of which are only endemic to this part of Europe. Come, enjoy, and explore these wonders of nature - it's only an hour's drive from your hotel. Important scientific figures from Slovenia include Jurij Vega, Josef Ressel, Jozef Stefan, Herman Potocnik-Noordung, Jovan Hadzi, Fritz Pregl (physician and 1923 Noble Prize winner for a micro analytic technique he developed in the field of organic chemistry).

PORTOROŽ - YOUR HOST CITY
Portorož (Port of Roses) is located along the coastal area of Slovenia in Primorska (the region by the sea). Due to its geographic location, the region has been strongly influenced by Italy. The city is at its heart a seaside resort with warm seawater swimming pools, yachting, casinos, and other beach activities. Its sister city, Piran, is only a short bus ride or a nice seaside walk away and is filled with seaside cafe's and quiet streets.
